Xiaomi Expands its EV Lineup with the YU7 SUV

Xiaomi’s on a roll—not too long after breaking driving records with the SU7 Ultra, the company today announced the launch of its first SUV, the Xiaomi YU7, which starts at RMB 253,500 (that’s around $35,370). Xiaomi is aiming to market the the YU7 as high-performance luxury SUV that’s a bit easier on one’s budget versus most other vehicles in the category.
Available in standard, “Pro” and “Max” versions, the YU7 features a sleek design complete with nine exterior and four interior colour options. Inside, you’ll find a cabin with premium features like soft-touch materials, Nappa leather seats, and there’s space for a trunk that expands up to 1,758 L. It’s also built with 2200 MPa high strength steel and an “Armor-Cage” hybrid body, which according to Xiaomi has passed rigorous crash tests.

The YU7 runs on Xiaomi’s HyperEngine V6s Plus, and Xiaomi claims that the Max version can hit 0-100 kmh in 3.23 seconds. Meanwhile, the Standard model offers an impressive 835 km CLTC range, with AWD versions reaching 770 km. Xiaomi has also integrated an 800V silicon carbide platform allows for ultra-fast charging, adding 620 km range in just 15 minutes.
The YU7 also comes with Xiaomi’s “Smart Chassis” that’s designed with adaptive suspension features, a 5.7m turning radius, and even a “Motion Sickness Relief Mode” which in theory should reduce those unwanted moments during long trips.
As with most EVs these days, the car also comes with built-in smart features—the YU7’s intelligent core is powered by an NVIDIA DRIVE AGX ThorTM platform, which supports Xiaomi’s HyperVision Panoramic Display and the Hyper XiaoAi AI Voice Assistant; Xiaomi has also included support for Apple CarPlay on the YU7.
As for availability, pre-orders are now open via the Xiaomi EV app and WeChat Mini Program, although the YU7 is exclusive for Chinese markets (at least, at the moment). Given its more accessible price however, it’s clear that Xiaomi’s attempting to undercut bigger EV players such as Tesla.
